Facade Improvement Grant

The Downtown Development District (DDD) has developed a Façade Improvement Matching Grant Program. It is designed to stimulate new investment, enhance business and development opportunities and to attract new customers Downtown. The program is designed to provide an economic incentive for improving the appearance of the facades of historic buildings in the district, and to encourage quality renovation that
will enhance and be consistent with the historical design, materials, and architectural character reflected in the original design of the building. All renovations and restorations must be approved by the Central Business District Historic District Landmarks Commission and are subject to its regulation and oversight.

Grant in Action
This building in the 800 block of Canal had the rusty, 1950's metal facade removed to reveal a coal-black facade. The original facade was cleaned, repaired and painted. The property owner is in process of returning the upper floors to commerce.
