The Downtown Development District is partnering with the South Louisiana Submerged Roads Program to inform Downtown residents and business owners that significant repairs to major Downtown roads will begin in early Fall. The repair process will consist of replacing two inches of old asphalt pavement and other curb repairs. It will also result in new striping and markers, as well as new ADA handicap ramps. A community information session will be held Tuesday, August 25 at 5 p.m. at Le Chat Noir, 715 St. Charles Avenue. At the meeting, representatives from the South Louisiana Submerged Roads Program will present the schedule of work, answer any questions, and provide other helpful information to Downtown stakeholders who may be affected. | | Downtown Office Tower Improves Bicycle Friendliness To Decrease Traffic and Promote Healthy Activity Place St. Charles, located at 201 St. Charles Avenue in Downtown's Central Business District, has begun a landscaping project at the entrance to the building's garage that will upgrade outdoor seating and bicycle parking areas for tenants and visitors. The current bicycle area will be expanded and will include a larger, locked area for tenant's bicycles. "These measures will do more than protect bicycle commuters' property," says DDD President and CEO Kurt Weigle. "Creating a bicycle friendly Downtown is an important part of the mobility strategy for New Orleans as is outlined in the DDD's Mobility & Parking Study report." Other suggestions from the Mobility & Parking Study include adding bicycle lanes, retiming crossing signals, and adding curb extensions. |
